Web applications

RAW

Raw is an open web app to create custom vector-based visualizations on top of the amazing D3.js library through a simple interface.

CorTexT Manager

Flagship project of the CorTexT platform, the “CorText Manager” allows users of the platform to manage their projects and analyze their data sets directly online. The CorText Manager provides an online platform interfacing users with a range of analysis tools developed by CorText corpus. This application enables to upload data sets from disparate sources, and initiate treatments (scripts) to perform remote analyses/maps of primary data. A private space allows users to launch and test on their own chains of treatments before possibly making results public.

HeatGraph

Heat Graph visualizes densities on spatialized networks. Get a global heatmap or a heatmap of the neighborhood of a given node.

Hyphe

Hyphe is a webcrawler made to help scientists create a corpus of web actors and the network of the hyperlinks between them, browsable and exportable to Gephi.

Issue 2 Navicrawler

A python library to transform a issuecrawler xml file into a navicrawler wxsf (xml) file format.

iWantHue

Colors for data scientists. Generate and refine palettes of optimally distinct colors.

Table 2 Net

Extract a network from a table. Set a column for nodes and a column for edges. It deals with multiple items per cell.

ScienceScape

Helpers for scientometrics. Convert files, get networks, visualize stuff from Scopus or Web of Science.

TreeCloud

TreeCloud is a website that helps you to generate tree clouds from a text, that is word clouds where the words are arranged on a tree which reflects their semantic proximity inside the text. The first tree cloud appeared on Jean Véronis’s blog in December 2007, you can now create your own with this website, or with the TreeCloud software.

Softwares

Gephi

Gephi is an interactive visualization and exploration platform for all kinds of networks and complex systems, dynamic and hierarchical graphs.

SAINT: Rathenau Instituut

The Rathenau Institute has developed SAINT, which stands for Science Assessment Integrated Network Toolkit. This is a set of tools for bibliometric and patentometric research.  The new toolkit is easy to use, the software is fully integrated and can handle a large amount of data.

Scapetoad

Most 2D-maps are used to represent topographic metrics: distances and areas measured on the map (multiplied by the map scale) give traveling distances and land surfaces. In some cases, this information is irrelevant or even misleading [see an example]. As a cartographer, you may wish to use map metrics to represent other data, such as human populations or amounts of produced resources. This is what ScapeToad is for.

Actor Network Text Analyzer

ANTA or Actor Network TexT Analyzer is a piece of software developed by Science Po médialab to analyze medium-sized text corpora, by extracting the expressions they contained in a set of texts and drawing a network of the occurence of such expressions in the texts.

Science of Science (Sci2)

The Science of Science (Sci2) Tool is a modular toolset specifically designed for the study of science. It supports the temporal, geospatial, topical, and network analysis and visualization of scholarly datasets at the micro (individual), meso (local), and macro (global) levels.

Tinasoft desktop

Tools for INteractive Assessement and Visualization of Scientific Landscapes. A desktop application to text-mine corpora, build maps and explore the resulting networks. Available on Linux (optimized for Ubuntu), Window  (64 & 32) and Mac.

TextObserver

Outil de d’observation et d’exploitation des données textuelles multidimensionnelles, pour l’analyse des discours sociopolitiques.

Plugins

Navicrawler

Use this old tool to explore the web in Firefox and build a corpus. Export the hyperlink network to Gephi.

NodeXL

NodeXL is a free and open-source network analysis and visualization software package for Microsoft Excel 2007/2010. It is a popular package similar to other network visualization tools such as Pajek, UCINet, and Gephi.

Libraries

Sigma.js

Sigma is a JavaScript library dedicated to graph drawing. It makes easy to publish networks on Web pages, and allows developers to integrate network exploration in rich Web applications.

D3.js

D3.js is a JavaScript library for manipulating documents based on data. D3 helps you bring data to life using HTML, SVG and CSS. D3’s emphasis on web standards gives you the full capabilities of modern browsers without tying yourself to a proprietary framework, combining powerful visualization components and a data-driven approach to DOM manipulation.

pyGEXF

A python library to read or write gexf format, the xml file format to store graph.
